Ricky, a city kid, is entrusted to a New Zealand country family. He feels right at home with the new entourage family: Aunt Bella, the irresistible Uncle Hec and the dog Tupac. Following a dramatic event, Ricky is likely to be sent to another home. This will push the kid and Hec to flee into the woods. With the pursuit of the man behind them, the two are forced to set aside their differences and to work together to survive.
