Inspired by a true story, Sitting in Bars with Cake follows best friends Jane (Yara Shahidi) and Corinne (Odessa A’zion) as they navigate life in their twenties in Los Angeles. Corinne, an extrovert par excellence, convinces her shy but extremely talented best friend and home baker Jane to commit to baking cakes for a year and taking them to coffee shops, also known as “cakebarring”, with the aim of meeting people and developing self-confidence. During their year of “cakebarring,” Corinne receives a life-changing diagnosis, and the two girls find themselves facing a challenge unlike anything they’ve ever faced.
Sitting in Bars with Cake is not only a wild ride through some of Los Angeles’ most colorful locales, but also a heartwarming celebration of female friendship, creating an identity, and finding joy in the most unexpected places.
